There are several different recipes to make DIY puffy paint. We chose to go with a simple 3 ingredient recipe.

For this DIY puffy paint you’ll need:
- foamy shaving cream
- glue
- food coloring
- plastic bags
- construction paper
To make the puffy paint, you’ll need to mix about equal parts of glue and shaving cream together. We didn’t measure, we just poured.
Next, add in your food coloring and stir until completely mixed together.
Pour the mixture into a Ziploc bag. Repeat for all colors of puffy paint you plan to make. We made 5 different colors and used 2 bottles of glue portioned between them. This made a lot of paint! After drawing several pictures and making several cards, we finally threw the leftovers away.
In the corner of the bag, cut a small opening to squeeze the paint out of. The paint expands as it dries so keep this in mind.
There are some recipes I have seen that call for flour as well. I imagine this would help to keep the shapes from expanding so we’ll probably try adding this next time.
The best part is when the paint dries. You’ll want to leave it to dry over night. But once it is dry, it is a puffy texture! Instead of hardening, it is soft and puffy to the touch. It’s almost addicting to play with! The girls left behind a few fingerprints messing with it before it completely dried. So try to resit the urge!
You could also make this paint scented by using your favorite oils. We love adding our cotton candy oil into our slime because it smells so good! Now that we know how awesome this paint is, we’ll definitely add some oils for a cotton candy smell next time. Everything is better when it’s cotton candy scented!
This DIY puffy paint was a lot of fun for the girls to play with. It entertained them for hours and they are already asking to make it again!
